You are beautiful and amazing, whoever you are. We are all extremely grateful for your vigilance in defending our community from the onslaught of the police state.
The government wants us all under their thumbs. They want all of us to be in our right place; going to work, being trapped in school, rotting in prison, doing nothing that they do not want us to do. We are forbidden from living. The government wants to render us into soulless, empty shells, acting as nothing more than carriers for capital and resources. Our forests are as expendable as we are to them. And so that none their slaves may rebel, they cover our streets with cameras and police cruisers. They wish to destroy every free space still in existence. They wish to see everything so that they may stop what is most dangerous to them: LIFE.
Dispatch from a Midwestern City
For the past year, we have inhabited an occupied space in conflict with the prevailing logic of capitalism: everything that can be desired is for sale (nothing escapes the realm of the commodity); in order to survive one must exchange commodities for their representation in the form of currency; one’s daily experience, the sum of life itself, is nothing more than a good to be sold on the open market. That space and the lives we have come to know and to love are being directly threatened by those who have chosen to base their livelihoods on exploitation, fear, and the destruction of life. We are anarchists, squatters, and gardeners who by asking no leave, no permission to live, have attempted to take directly some of the means necessary for life: the space and time to breathe and recover from the incessant monotony of school, work, rent, and the supermarket; the thought and energy to mount an attack against all that which is killing us piecemeal.
The Loner denies Civil Guard killings in court
The man who was Spain's most wanted said he had never killed anybody.
Jaime Giménez Arbe, the man known as The Loner, and who was for some years Spain’s most wanted man after carrying out a series of bank robberies, has told the court in Pamplona that he ‘expropriates banks’ because of his anarchist and anti-system ideology.
He denied any part in the killing in June 2004 of two civil guards from the town of Castejón, Navarra, of which he is accused.
Toward an Open Source Society
One of the oldest arguments against anarchism is that it is impractical, that without central authority to keep the peons in line any large project will dissolve into chaos and disorder. Yet the open source software movement provides modern day proof that anarchism works, even when not conducted by anarchists. Source code is the human readable text of a computer program, written by programmers and compiled into binary format for execution by the computer. Without the source code, it is nearly impossible to modify a computer program, or even understand how it works. Proprietary software vendors like Microsoft keep their source code confidential, distributing binary-only software to rob users of the ability to modify it for their own purposes.
They also throw in things like undecipherable file formats that no other software can understand. Customers are left completely dependent on the vendor for bug fixes and new features, trapping them on an endless treadmill of upgrades, always hoping that the next version will fix their current problems without introducing too many new ones. Usually they are disappointed.
The Yiddish anarchist press in Israel
The anarchist ideology arrived in Palestine at the beginning of the 20th century, carried by a big wave of emigrants from Eastern Europe (Russia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland). The ideas of Peter Kropotkin and Leo Tolstoy had one remarkable infuence on famous exponents of the Zionism of the left, like Yitzhak Tabenkin, Berl Katzenelson, and Mark Yarblum. In his turn, the organizer of the Jewish self-defense movement, Joseph Trumpeldor, was very close in his ideas to anarcho-syndicalism. Anarchism has also had some infuence on the constitution of socio-political movements such as Poalei Zion, Zeirei-Zion, He-Halutz, and Gdud ha-Avoda.
The anarchists in Palestine at the beginning of the century, nearly all coming from Eastern Europe, did not have connections with the Yiddish anarchist movement and had adopted the Hebrew language. In the 20s and 30s all lived on the kibbutz : for example, the famous anarchist Aharon Shidlovsky was one of the founders of the kibbutz "Kvutzat Kinneret". During the Spanish revolution many anarchists of Palestine rushed to Spain in order to fight against Franco and fascism in the ranks of the libertarian CNT-FAI militia.
Cascadia: General Alert For Imminent Military Shipments
Once again, we have received information from multiple sources pointing towards another shipment through a port in Cascadua. The genocidal machine known as the US military is attempting to re-oil its rusty gears and show the population of Cascadia that, despite all of our efforts, the murder and death will not stop and that none of us have the ability to change anything.
We have not halted a single military shipment, but each time the death machines have rolled through our towns we have tried our best and with each shipment the resistance has grown stronger. Despite what the blood suckers in Washington DC believe, another shipment will blast the level of resistance in Cascadia into the sky.
Anti-Capitalist Bloc @the RNC
On “Labor Day” 2008, and throughout the Republican National Convention (RNC), tens of thousands of people from our community and from across the Unites States will protest against the GOP’s pro-corporate policies of war and discrimination. The Anti-Capitalist Bloc will join these mobilizations not just to protest a bad president or failed policies, but to stand up against the whole system of exploitation and oppression: capitalism.
It is the inherent character of capitalism that is creating the current economic crisis. Tens of thousands of laid-off workers, thousands of homes in foreclosure, and quickening inflation of gas and food prices are all signs of a system out of control, a system where the sins of the bosses are visited on the masses of workers.
